For your information:

I went to University of Florida a little unknown school in a swamp that no one knows unless you follow Ohio sports.

But the school I went to is not the point of this discussion.

The universities I mentioned are places where colleagues of mine have attended. You profess to be all knowing because you sit in your little ivory tower just north of I275 and get to talk with people who publish in the WSJ. While I have spent years working with people from common laborers to architects and engineers, one time I had the opportunity to speak with the King of Sweden about construction processes in and around Viking archeological sites.

If you have been listening for the last 8 years you would know that I use this place to blow off steam and that ?Trav? is not a real person but a caricature of my personality that while based on me is far less sophisticated.

My experiences in Central America, Europe and Southeast Asia on numerous projects and dealing with all levels of people gives me a perspective that you will never have. I lost three friends in the nightclub bombing in Bali and if not for construction delays I could have been there with them. I also missed riding the train in Madrid and the tube in London when they were bombed by a week or two.

I have had many discussions regarding illegal immigration, crime, heath care, gun ownership and what freedom verses personal liberty means in places that you probably never heard of. In all these discussions, even when the person I was talking to thought I was some ?gun toting American cowboy? (funny because I don?t like cows and can?t ride a horse) it was clear that they were envious of the US. Before you talk about bad economies and bad Presidents why don?t you spend a few months in Mexico or if you want to discuss universal healthcare go over to England and get sick and see how wonderful it is or maybe go to Singapore and find out about their mandatory military service or that there is no possibility of it?s citizens ever owning land.

You think I?m some type paranoid yokel because I know what is really happening in the world and you?re some learned economist when actually you?re just a Midwest wanabe.

And I apologize that my cartoons are over your head.

Trav, I did not know you were a Gator. All the times I've bashed them and now I feel bad. Only I wasn't bashing the school, or its alumni, just its sports teams. And actually, just two of its sports teams- football and basketball. But I've been on the campus, and there's no question as to how hot its co-eds- I mean, it has some great masters programs.

And although I think Urban Meyer is an a-hole, it is important to remember that he learned all he needed to know about coaching when he was an assistant coach at my own St. Xavier (while I was there, I might add, he might have even learned a thing or two from me even though I was in the band)

The cartoons are a waste of space and typically don't add any depth or knowledge on any given topic.

You attend UFLA for a couple semesters. Whoopee. (If it makes you feel any better, I like to see Ohio State make asses of themselves.)

Mexico has a bad economy? Really? Gosh. Now I know why we have so many Mexicans pining to clean the urinals in my building.

And despite all your travels, your view revolves around Cheviot.

And since you feel so special about missing bombings, I missed the World Trade Center by several weeks. I don't mention it because it's not important nor relevant, just as your "near misses" aren't. Though I know people who worked in one of the buildings that collapsed and my immediate boss was in New York that day and fortuitious timing kept him away from offices 100+ floors up. But I don't attach myself to these things so I can come up with some silly rant about how great we are and everybody else sucks.

About universal health care. You hear what you want to hear. That's the problem. I can share stories, too!

I have a friend in Winnipeg who had a dying mother. The hospital wanted to kick her out and she had nowhere else to go. Frazzled, he feverishly worked the system to get her a place for her final days.

She died about a month ago.

Before she died, I shared stories about my ex and his experiences with health care. Despite his brutal experiences, he wasn't willing to switch health care systems. As a matter of fact, when discussing my own mundane experiences with the everyday mechanics of my health care, one response from another friend was, "That sucks."

The reality is that we pay the most and don't get the results. Here health care is a privilege, not a right. You don't have to go to England to figure it out. Sadly, you DID go to England and you will NEVER figure it out. Maybe it's because you have your health care and you don't give a rat's ass about anyone else. You'd rather sneer at them.

Buy that house in Cheviot. It's where you belong.

ps. I got a dad who worked his ass off working 7 day weeks and 15 hour days for decades. In his retirement, he now drives a school bus at the age of 70, primarily so health care won't deplete life savings accumulated through frugal living. (He doesn't get health benefits; there's a seniority list and only a certain number get full time hours and full benefits.)

Reason after reading all your posts I get the impression that you have never done anything yourself. It?s always a friend, neighbor, relative or co-worker.

Why don?t you tell us of your own vast experience?

You must be a conflicted person and I do feel for you. You go to the polls, pull the curtain then have to decide which head to use. I guess it?s like black voters now, they may like the Hilda beast, but how do they vote against Obama? It was much easer for them when Obama was ?not black enough?. Tiring to be conservative and gay must be difficult.
